Customer Reviews

Review My daughter gave me this Krups GVX1/2 coffee grinder for Christmas, and despite many trials and errors I cannot get it to give me the fine grind I want for my stove top espresso maker. No matter if I turn the grind setting far to the left (fine symbols) or far to the right (largest symbols) I always get a coarse grind. It doesn't help that the booklet doesn't translate the symbols (i.e.: fine=smallest symbols or vice versa) into words. I have tried and tried and cannot get a fine enough grind! For many years I have had a Krups F20342 small blade grinder which still works perfectly!

Review I bought this back in January 2014, having done quite a bit of research. I was really pleased with it, recommended to several friends. Over the past few months it's played up a bit with overheating if grinding a larger quantity. Today the button fell into the machine. I decided to have a look online at what's on offer now and noticed the reviews, I was tempted to replace like for like but see the disappearing button is a common fault - I guess would suit an occasional user, I use it at least twice a day! Just noticed it has a 2 year guarantee, will have to see if I can find receipt...

Review Bought this grinder because overall people seemed to like it. Used it three times and on/off switch would not work. Refund obtained.

Review Third one of these to break. The first just stopped working (after 18mths, when the guarantee was only a year). The second ditto after 21mths, replaced under the two year guarantee. The latest version lasted 30 mths but the on/off button has just popped into the machine - unrepairable. Never had a problem with the grind consistency (for both cafetiere and espresso machine) but won't be buying this again, poor build quality seems to be the issue.

Review We just bought a new one of these after the previous exact same one broke down after nearly 10 years of use. Looked at other cheaper ones but went for this one again as we were very happy with it. Only for the last year the on/ off button has been playing up.

Review Bought this John Lewis June 2012. Did everything we wanted until this July, when the switch button vanished, never to be seen again. Such a shame! For the money we paid, I would have expected a longer life. From what I,ve seen here, Shall not send for repair.

Review Wish there was a way to give this a zero rating. Bought as a reasonably priced entry level model, this machine gives a very uneven grind. Regardless of setting it grinds a certain amount to fine powder, merely increasing the size of chunks in the mix. This releases all the bitterness from the beans and, combined with the heat generated, kills the finer aromas of the coffee, resulting in a foul tasting, virtually unrecognisable brew. This despite advice in the instructions about too fine a grind releasing bitterness! Additionally, both hoppers being plastic, it's necessary to have the vaccuum cleaner standing by as the static generated when grinding sends grounds flying everywhere. A thoroughly regretted purchase.

Review This is the second identical model I have had, the last served me well for many years. Amongst all the razzmatazz of coffee making I believe paper filtered is the healthy option and fresh ground makes all the difference. If I leave a few beans in the hopper it is a moments work to grind, amazing, little work, little cleaning needed.
